A former Melbourne-based gallerist (10 years), Catherine Asquith is tertiary educated and has an academic background in Art History, extensive international travel and residency and, in excess of 20 years working within the Australian art market, and latterly, the Asian art market, across both the primary and secondary sectors. In the past 3 years, Catherine’s focus has encompassed the international blue chip sector, managing off-market private transactions for internationally-based collectors and collections, for Modernist, Post-War and Contemporary artworks.
Catherine’s areas of expertise stretch across all areas of the global art market and multi-disciplinary contemporary art practices, including painting, sculpture, works on paper and multiples (graphics and photography), with a specialist focus on Australian and Indigenous art and artists as well as contemporary art and artists of the Asia-Pacific region.
Catherine has placed significant works of art by leading Australian and International artists within high-profile international private, corporate, and institutional collections. Actively participating in a variety of board, mentorship, and philanthropy positions, Catherine is frequently engaged in advisory and consulting roles on curatorial projects; invited as a guest speaker at vernissages and corporate events, to discuss various aspects of art and art market movements. She also publishes articles and contributes reportages on Australian and global art auctions, art fairs, and on the state of the art market in general.
